Bason Park

This is the homestead garden in Bason Park, Wanganui. It's the most beautiful garden I have seen in the North Island of NZ so far.

Wanganui Winter Garden

"Wanganui in Bloom" is a popular phrase in New Zealand. Wanganui is particularly positioning itself in the local tourism industry as the town with wonderful gardens and flower baskets in the heart of the town. The photos here are taken from the Winter Gardens, near Victoria Lake, Wanganui.

The Winter Gardens is an impressive greenhouse which is maintained by volunteers. There are man-made fountains inside the greenhouse. All of the flowers are on pots, which is very interesting way of gardening. I think it makes sense to do it that way though because then it will be less maintenance required and easy to re-arrange the flowers. It's also easy to just remove some flowering plants if they are, in anyway, unhealthier, relative to the other flowers. The goal is to keep lovely, lush-looking flowers in the greenhouse to be enjoyed by local and international tourists.Greenhouses cost $800 to $3000 in New Zealand. The bigger it is, the more expensive it would be. The $3000 green house would be an average of 8ft x 12 ft with the height of 10 ft. Usually, these greenhouses can be manually built. There are several manufacturers of greenhouses in New Zealand. All of them ship their products all over the country. You might have to be a bit of a handy man to build one yourself. But really, it's just about knowing how to work with a bit of screws and bolts and hammer.I've been lucky to be able to own a home in New Zealand, and I hope that this blog will help me write about what I read about everyday in improving my home.
